Diet plays an important role for person who is suffering from diabetes. The diet may be used alone or in combination with insulin injections or oral hypoglycaemic drugs.
The diet plan of an individual is based on height, weight, age, sex, physical activity and nature of diabetes. One should consider the following points while planning a diabetic diet:

What Not To Eat If You Are Diabetic
- Sugar is to be avoided by those suffering from diabetes. White sugar, honey, jaggery, jelly, jam, ice-cream, pastries, canned juice, chocolates, cake, pie, syrup, doughnuts, artificial sweeteners, cream and cookies are some sweet food items that diabetic patients should strictly avoid.
- Meals should not be missed.
- Avoid White Rice.Eat brown rice. Steer clear of white rice, which has had the bran removed. Wild rice is fine–it’s actually a grass, and not a rice at all–but avoid the wild rice mixes that come in the boxes–they usually come with white rice added.
- Avoid Cold Beverages such as sports drinks, and most soft drinks.
- Dairy products such as milk and cottage cheese contain the sugar lactose. Small amounts of skim or low-fat dairy products can be used, but those that are high in fat should be avoided.
- Vegetables(Some) contain a lot of starch that turns to sugar in the body. Potatoes, yam, arbi, sweet potatoes, mangoes, grapes, bananas, alcoholic beverages, fried foods, paranthas, poories, pakoras, mathris, deep fried foods, dry fruits, salad oils, cakes and pastries.
